Paul Sibert
I discovered fencing at the age of 24 in my final year of my undergraduate degree and, thanks to moving to London and being taken on by Prof Brian Pitman, within 5 years I had progressed to the top 20 in the British Foil Rankings.
Later, as my own children grew up, I co-founded Sherwood Cadets Fencing Club and ran it for about 10 years. In that time we produced some excellent fencers and my own two children went on the represent England, Scotland and Great Britain at Cadet and Junior level. Including UK School Games, Junior Commonwealth Championships, European Cadet Championships and World Cadet Championships. More recently I have competed at Veteran level and placed 7th at the World Veterans Championships in Moscow in 2009. I am a Level 4 coach in all three weapons; I was a coach with the, now defunct, National Academy; I am currently an Assessor Coach with the British Fencing AASE programme and I have twice been a coach selector for the World Class Talent Programme. Outside fencing I am Geography teacher and formerly Head of Department at a school in Nottingham. |
