Prof. Norman Golding
The Director and driving force behind the Millfield Fencing Courses.
Norman is an ‘Old-School three weapon Master who is the only Coach in Great Britain to have produced over 50 fencers for various ‘World Championships’ at all six weapons.
He was the England Senior Coach for over ten years and the Senior Coach for England Junior Team for more than 20 years, during his time as the England Coach, England won the ‘Junior & Senior Quad’ overall trophies every time. They also brought back more medals than any other nation from the three Commonwealths that he attended, Whistler in Canada, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Chennai in India.
He was the Director of Fencing at Millfield School and South West National Coach for 31 years, retiring in 2011. He now lives in the South West of France.
Towards the end of Norman’s long career in the UK he was know for pioneering Ladies Sabre in Great Britain, he was the Under 20 Ladies Sabre Coach for a decade travelling with the team to all parts of the globe. Many of the team were his own pupils, in 2011 alone in the Senior European Championships 3 of the 4 ladies representing Great Britain were ex Millfield/Norman’s fencers, as were the whole ladies Junior Sabre team of Jessica Davies, Sophie Williams and Alice Watson at the World Championships at the Dead Sea in Jordan in April 2011.
